Transition
Transition opens at 6.00am on race day. All bikes are required to be racked by 7.30am Sunday morning. You CAN NOT rack your bike Saturday, please bring your bike on race day only.
Bike Support
The team from Avanti Plus Koops and Avantiplus Mount Maunganui will be available on Sunday morning for any assistance you need prior to the race.

Swim Caps
You will be issued with a Tinman swim cap in a colour specifically for your category. You must wear the swimcap provided at registration. An athlete must wear the swim cap provided by the event at all times during the swim. If an athlete chooses to wear additional swim caps, the one provided by the event must be the external one. You may be disqualified if you do not have the official swim cap of your category.
Team Members note: the team swimmer must wear this swim cap.
Race Numbers
You will be supplied with ONE race number in your race pack. Your race number must be secured to your upper body clothing or on a race belt (race belts must be worn at waist height throughout the race). Numbers must be clearly visible from the front on the run section. Numbers must not be folded or reduced in size in any way. If numbers are not showing as above, competitors may be disqualified.
Team Members note: the team runner must wear this number on the front of their upper body clothing.
Bike and Helmet Numbering
You will be given two number stickers in your race pack. One is for the front of your helmet and the other is your bike number, this is to be folded around your seat-post.
Team Members note: the team cyclist will need both of these stickers.
Compulsory Race Briefing
Compulsory Race Briefing for all competitors including all team members will be held in the transition area Pilot Bay, Mount Maunganui at 7.30am on Sunday 4 December. All bikes must be racked before the race briefing.
Bike removal from Transition
Bikes will be available to be removed from Transition from 11.00am or as soon as the last cyclist has finished (NO EARLIER). You will be required to show your race number so they can check it against your bike number before you can exit transition. Exit point will be via an exit at the Police Station end of transition. Please do not ask to get your bike out before this time their will still be athletes racing and for fairness and respect need to have a clear transition

Timing
The event will use the race timing services of Sports Timing New Zealand. Each competitor will be issued with a transponder at registration which must be attached by the Velcro band to your left ankle.
Please ensure the transponder is attached to your ankle on race morning. The band must not be removed during the entire race. If you are forced to withdraw at any stage you must report to the timing tent at the finish line as soon as possible and return the band. Failure to do so will cause delays in issuing official results. A NZ$50 replacement cost will be charged for missing bands.
Support Stations
Standard distance competitors will have access to 5 support stations on the run (there are no stations on the bike course). Sprint distance competitors will have access to 3 support stations.
Water and HORLEYS sports drink will be available at all stations.

- Support Station2 – Opp Banks Ave on Marine Parade (going out)
- Support Station3 - Opp Banks Ave on Marine Parade (coming back)
- Support Station4 – Base Track Entrance

Sprint Distance:

In additon to those above there will be drinks available at the finish line.
Prize Giving
Prize giving will take place approx 12 noon or as soon as possible after the final finisher. Venue will be Pilot Bay, adjacent to the transition area.
There is prize money available for the Top 5 Men and Women in the ELITE Standard Distance race. Athletes who race under the Pro/Elite category are not eligible for age group awards and those athletes who race under the Age Group category are not eligible for prize money.
There will also be spot prizes. You must be present to collect spot prizes.
Course Description
Standard Distance
Swim - 1500m (2 x 750m laps)
Sea swim in the harbour, swimmers exit the water at the end of lap 1, round the marker on the beach and re-enter the water to complete the second lap.
Bike - 40km (2 lap bike course)
2 laps out and back to the roundabout at Papamoa Beach Road and Pacific View Road.
Competitors exit transition and travel along The Mall, turning right into Adams Avenue and right into Marine Parade.
Turn left at the roundabout onto Oceanbeach Road and cycle to the end turning at the end of the cul-de-sac. Left into Yale Street, left into Maranui/Papamoa Beach Road, turning around at the roundabout at Pacific View Road.
Return via Maranui/Papamoa Beach Road, turning right into Yale Street, left into Oceanbeach Road, right onto Marine Parade at the roundabout and back to The Mall, turn left into Prince Avenue and then turn right back onto The Mall for the second lap.
After your second lap, you will turn left into Prince Avenue as before THEN LEFT back into The Mall and proceed to transition and dismount.
Run - 10km (1 lap run).
From transition, competitors run up The Mall, turn right into Adams Ave and turn right into Marine Parade and run to the turnaround point just prior to Tay Street.
Return via the Mount Base Track entering at the Surf Club (running anti clockwise around the Mount), exit the base track and run down The Mall to the finishline.
Sprint Distance
Swim - 750m (1 x 750m laps)
Sea swim in the harbour.
Bike - 20km (1 lap bike course)
1 lap out and back to the roundabout at Papamoa Beach Road and Pacific View Road.
Competitors exit transition and travel along The Mall, turning right into Adams Avenue and right into Marine Parade.
Turn left at the roundabout onto Oceanbeach Road and cycle to the end turning at the end of the cul-de-sac. Left into Yale Street, left into Maranui/Papamoa Beach Road, turning around at the roundabout at Pacific View Road.
Return via Maranui/Papamoa Beach Road, turning right into Yale Street, left into Oceanbeach Road, right onto Marine Parade at the roundabout and back to The Mall, turn left into Prince Avenue THEN LEFT back into The Mall and proceed to transition and dismount.
Run – 5.5km (1 lap run).
From transition, competitors run up The Mall, turn right into Adams Ave and turn left onto the board walk at the Surf Club where directed running anti clockwise around the Mount base track, exit the base track and run down The Mall to the finishline.

The Race Director may withdraw a athlete from the event (including for reasons other than the health of the competitor) if this is needed to maintain the safety of the competitors, officials, spectators or the public or for any other reason.
During this event the following equipment is PROHIBITED to be used at all times: Penalty for use at any time of the event is DISQUALIFICATION.

General Information
Swim
The swim course will be open for warm up immediately after the Compulsory Race Briefing. Approximately 7.45am. Please do not enter the water prior to this time as there will be no water safety available.
Athletes may use any stroke to propel themselves through the water. They may also tread water or float. It is allowed to push off the ground at the beginning and the end of every swim lap.
Athletes must follow the prescribed swim course.
Athletes may stand on the bottom or rest by holding an inanimate object, such as a buoy or stationary boat. Dolphin diving in shallow water is permitted.
Athletes must not walk at any time during the swim
In an emergency, an athlete should raise an arm overhead and call for assistance.
Each swimmer must wear the cap provided at registration (if you wish to wear two caps the official Tinman cap must be showing). Please ensure you have the correct coloured cap for your category. If you have the incorrect cap showing you may be disqualified.
No fins, paddles, snorkels, floatation devices of any kind are permitted.
Wetsuits are mandatory if the water temperature is BELOW 14 degrees C and forbiddon if the water temperature is ABOVE 22 degrees C. The water temperature in Pilot Bay at this time of the year is traditionally approx 17 degrees C.

Bike
Normal NZ Road Code rules will apply during the event. Cyclists must be aware that residents, businesses and visitors will be using the road. The roads are NOT CLOSED to vehicle traffic.
Your race number sticker must be visible on the front of the helmet and on your seat post at all times on your bike.
There is no riding your bike in transition – push your bike through the transition area and over the timing mats when exiting and entering the mount/dismount area. You must follow officials instructions at all times.
Helmets must be approved by a recognised testing authority.
The helmet must fit the athlete properly and the chin strap must be properly adjusted to ensure a secure fit. Officials may check helmets upon entry to transition to ensure compliance with this rule.
An alteration to any part of the helmet, including the chin strap, or the omission of any part of the helmet, including an outer cloth cover, is prohibited;
The helmet must be securely fastened at all times when the athlete is in possession of the bike, which means from the time they remove their bike from the rack at the start of the bike leg, until after they have placed their bike on the rack at the finish of the bike leg.
Drafting is not permitted, there will be officials on course monitoring drafting.
To draft is to enter the bicycle or vehicle drafting zone:
• Bicycle Draft Zone: the Draft Zone will be a rectangle. The width
will always be 3 metres wide. The center of the leading 3-metre
edge will be measured from the leading edge of the front wheel.
The length of the rectangle will measure 7 metres; for all race
distances;
• An athlete may enter the Draft Zone of another athlete, but must
be seen to be progressing through that zone. A maximum time of
15 seconds will be allowed to pass through the zone of another
athlete:;

First Offence: Two (2) minute stand-down at the point where Official stops cyclist.

Athletes who withdraw from the event at any time on race day must notify the officials in the timing tent at the finish line immediately upon their return.
No outside support is allowed and any could lead to disqualification.
Each athlete is responsible to ensure their own bike is in a safe and road worthy condition.
Each athlete will be INDIVIDUALLY RESPONSIBLE for repair and maintenance of his/her own bike.
Cyclists are expected to heed directions and instructions of all race officials and public authorities.
Athletes may run / walk their bike if necessary.
Handle bar ends must be plugged, tyres well glued to prevent rolling, headsets tight and wheels true. Each wheel must have a brake.

Run
No form of locomotion other than running or walking is allowed.
Runners must wear their race number at all times. Race numbers must be placed on the front of the runner where it is clearly visible and must not be obscured from view.
The run is an out-and-back course. Please ensure you take care to avoid on-coming runners.
Runners are expected to follow the directions and instructions of all race officials and public authorities.
Not be accompanied by team members, team managers or other pacemakers on the course.
Running shoes must be worn at all times and you must not run barefoot on any part of the run course (including transition).
The breach of run rules will incur a penalty.

Team Competition
Compulsory Briefing.
All team members should attend the compulsory briefing on Sunday at 7.30am next to the transition area.
Your timing transponder is your team 'baton' ie: The team swimmer will start with the transponder on their ankle and the runner will finish with it on.
Swim to Bike Tag
Notes for the swimmer:
You must hand over your timing transponder to your cyclist at the 'TEAM TAG AREA' which is situated at the rear of transition. The swimmer should keep moving through the transition area immediately to make way for following swimmers and to avoid congestion.
Notes for the Cyclist:
Team cyclist assemble in the 'TEAM TAG AREA' which is situated at the rear of transition. The swimmer will approach you and hand over the timing transponder. Attach your transponder to your left ankle (in the tag team area), collect your bike and exit through the Cycle Exit at the front of transition.
Bike to Run Tag
Notes for Cylist:
Team cyclists dismount their bikes at the front of transition, rack their bikes and then enter the 'TEAM TAG AREA' by foot (without your bike). You then hand over the timing transponder to the team runner.
Notes for Runner:
Team runners assemble in the 'TEAM TAG AREA' which is situated at the rear of transition. The cyclist will approach you and hand over the timing transponder. Attach your transponder to your left ankle (in the tag team area), exit through the Run Exit at the rear of transition.
Team runners must wear the timing transponder on their left ankle and have the race number visable from the front at all times.
